How to read this page. The final's date, venue and kickoff time are fixed. The two finalists are not: they are the winners of the semi-finals on 14 and 15 July, which are themselves fed by the quarter-finals from 9 to 11 July. As of 8 July the Round of 16 is complete and the last eight is set, so we show the venue and the road to the final, and how the surviving nations can reach New York.
The Match
The final, Match 104
One match, 90 minutes and possibly more, to decide the champions of the world. The 2026 final is the 104th and last game of the tournament, and the first World Cup final staged in the New York area.
The final of the 2026 FIFA World Cup is played on Sunday 19 July 2026 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, with kickoff at 3pm US Eastern Time. It is the climax of the first 48-team World Cup, hosted across Canada, Mexico and the United States, that opened at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City on 11 June. Every match from the quarter-finals onward is on United States soil, and the final brings the tournament to the country's largest media market.
The two finalists are the winners of the two semi-finals: Match 101 at AT&T Stadium in the Dallas area on 14 July, and Match 102 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on 15 July. Each finalist arrives at MetLife having played seven knockout-inclusive rounds: three group games, then the new Round of 32, the Round of 16, a quarter-final and a semi-final. No previous World Cup has asked its finalists to survive so long a run.
The Venue
MetLife Stadium, the Meadowlands
The final is played at the biggest venue to host a knockout match at the 2026 World Cup, an 82,500-seat stadium eight kilometres from Manhattan. FIFA calls it New York New Jersey Stadium during the tournament because of its sponsorship rules.

MetLife Stadium opened in 2010 in the Meadowlands Sports Complex and is the shared home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets. For the World Cup its artificial NFL surface is replaced by a temporary natural-grass pitch grown to FIFA standards, and the field is widened to meet tournament requirements. For the full rundown of capacity, the pitch conversion, transit and the fan experience, see our dedicated MetLife Stadium guide.
The Road
How the finalists get to New York
The two finalists are the semi-final winners. Each semi-final is fed by two specific quarter-finals, so the halves of the draw are locked even before the last-eight ties are played. Times shown are Eastern kickoff hints.

The Boston and Los Angeles quarter-finals feed the Dallas semi-final and produce the top-half finalist. The Miami and Kansas City quarter-finals feed the Atlanta semi-final and produce the bottom-half finalist. Because defending champions Argentina and England sit in the same half, only one of them can reach MetLife. The Contenders
Who can reach the final
As of 8 July, eight nations remain, four in each half of the draw. The final will pair one team from the top half with one from the bottom half.
Top half to Dallas
Final place 1SF 14 Jul
France, Morocco, Spain and Belgium. France meet Morocco in Boston and Spain meet Belgium in Los Angeles; the two winners contest the AT&T Stadium semi-final on 14 July. France and Spain head the market, but 2022 semi-finalists Morocco and a dangerous Belgium can upset the maths. One of these four takes the top-half place in the final.
Bottom half to Atlanta
Final place 2SF 15 Jul
Norway, England, Argentina and Switzerland. Norway face England in Miami and defending champions Argentina face Switzerland in Kansas City; the winners meet in the Mercedes-Benz Stadium semi-final on 15 July. Argentina chase back-to-back titles, England a first final since 1966, Norway a first ever with Haaland leading the line. One of these four takes the bottom-half place.
The other route out
Bronze18 Jul
The two beaten semi-finalists do not go home empty-handed: they meet in the third-place play-off, Match 103, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on 18 July, the day before the final, for the bronze medal and a higher finish in the world.
The prize
Match 10419 Jul
The winner lifts the World Cup at MetLife Stadium, the 18-carat-gold trophy first used in 1974, and is crowned champion of the first 48-team tournament. The runner-up collects a silver medal. Read the story of the prize itself in our World Cup trophy guide.
On the Day
Getting to the final
MetLife Stadium sits in the Meadowlands, just across the Hudson from Manhattan, and the recommended way in for a sell-out crowd is rail rather than road.
On match days NJ Transit runs trains to the Meadowlands station next to the stadium, reached by changing at Secaucus Junction from services out of New York Penn Station and much of New Jersey. Match-day buses also run from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Driving is possible, but stadium parking is limited, expensive and sells out well in advance, so public transport is strongly advised for the final.
Expect airport-style security, bag restrictions and a mobile-ticket-only entry policy typical of major finals, plus long build-up around a closing ceremony before the 3pm Eastern Time kickoff. Fans without tickets can follow the match at watch parties across the New York and New Jersey area and in every host city. For the full transit and fan-experience rundown, see the MetLife Stadium guide, and for tickets our tickets and resale pages.

It is the 104th and last match of the first 48-team World Cup, staged across Canada, Mexico and the United States.
Where is the 2026 World Cup final played?
The final is at MetLife Stadium in the Meadowlands Sports Complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey, about 8 kilometres west of Manhattan. FIFA refers to it during the tournament as New York New Jersey Stadium because of its sponsorship rules. The stadium opened in 2010, seats about 82,500 for the World Cup and is the shared home of the NFL's New York Giants and New York Jets.
What time does the 2026 World Cup final kick off?
The final kicks off at 3pm US Eastern Time on Sunday 19 July 2026. That is 12pm on the US west coast, 8pm in the United Kingdom and Ireland, 9pm in central European countries such as Spain, France and Germany, and 4am on Monday in eastern Australia. The WorldCuply.com schedule shows the kickoff converted to your own time zone.
How do teams reach the 2026 World Cup final?
The two finalists are the winners of the two semi-finals. The first semi-final, Match 101, is at AT&T Stadium in the Dallas area on 14 July and takes the top-half winner; the second, Match 102, is at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on 15 July and takes the bottom-half winner. Each finalist will have come through the group stage, the Round of 32, the Round of 16, a quarter-final and a semi-final, seven matches in all before the final.
Which teams could reach the 2026 final?
As of 8 July no team has yet reached the final. The quarter-finals from 9 to 11 July pit France against Morocco in Boston, Spain against Belgium in Los Angeles, Norway against England in Miami and Argentina against Switzerland in Kansas City. The Boston and Los Angeles winners feed the Dallas semi-final and one of them takes the top-half final place; the Miami and Kansas City winners feed the Atlanta semi-final for the bottom-half place. Because Argentina and England are on the same side, only one of them can reach MetLife.
How big is MetLife Stadium for the World Cup final?
MetLife Stadium seats about 82,500 for the 2026 World Cup, making it one of the largest venues at the tournament and the biggest to host a knockout match. For the finals the artificial NFL surface is replaced by a temporary natural-grass pitch grown to FIFA standards, and the pitch and run-off areas are widened to meet World Cup requirements.
How do you get to MetLife Stadium for the final?
On match days NJ Transit runs rail service to the Meadowlands station next to the stadium, reached by changing at Secaucus Junction from trains out of New York Penn Station and much of New Jersey. There are also match-day buses from the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan. Driving is possible but stadium parking is limited and sells out, so public transport is the recommended way in for a sell-out final crowd.
What happens if the 2026 final is a draw?
There are no draws in a World Cup final. If the score is level after 90 minutes the final goes to two periods of 15 minutes of extra time, and if it is still level after that it is decided by a penalty shootout. The last World Cup final went the distance: Argentina beat France on penalties in 2022 after a 3-3 draw. See our guide to extra time and shootouts for the full rules.
How many matches has MetLife Stadium hosted at the 2026 World Cup?
MetLife Stadium hosts eight matches at the 2026 World Cup: five group-stage games, a Round of 32 tie, a Round of 16 tie and the final on 19 July. That is one of the busiest schedules of any venue, and the final is the showpiece of its tournament. Only the Dallas-area AT&T Stadium was allocated more matches overall.
Is there anything before the 2026 final on the same weekend?
Yes. The third-place play-off, Match 103, is played the day before the final, on Saturday 18 July, at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, contested by the two beaten semi-finalists for the bronze medal. The final itself is usually preceded by a closing ceremony at MetLife Stadium in the build-up to the 3pm Eastern Time kickoff.
