The biggest schedule of the tournament

AT&T Stadium, in Arlington between Dallas and Fort Worth, opened in 2009 at a cost of about 1.2 billion dollars and is one of the great cathedrals of American sport. Designed by the architecture firm HKS and home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, it was built to host the biggest events, and in 2026 it does exactly that: a tournament-high nine World Cup matches.

No venue at the 2026 World Cup stages more football. Dallas hosts five group-stage matches, two Round of 32 ties, a Round of 16 match and one of the two semi-finals on 14 July, the deepest stage any venue outside the Final reaches. Only MetLife Stadium, host of the 19 July Final, goes a round further.

Under FIFA's clean-venue sponsorship policy the stadium is called Dallas Stadium during the tournament, because the commercial AT&T name belongs to a non-FIFA sponsor. For how it sits among all 16 venues, see our stadiums and host cities hub.

The roof, the screen and the grow-light grass

AT&T Stadium is famous for its scale: a sweeping retractable roof, giant retractable doors at each end zone, and one of the largest center-hung video boards in world sport, suspended high above the field.

The roof, though, created the venue's biggest World Cup challenge. The stadium normally plays on artificial turf, but FIFA requires natural grass for every match. A Kentucky bluegrass and ryegrass pitch was grown for the tournament, and because the closed roof limits sunlight, crews installed suspended grow lights above the field to keep the grass healthy. FIFA describes the roof-mounted light setup as a first for a World Cup venue, and AT&T Stadium is the only 2026 host using it. The pitch took root under a glow of pink light in the weeks before kickoff.

How to reach AT&T Stadium

AT&T Stadium sits in the Arlington Entertainment District, between Dallas and Fort Worth and next to the Texas Rangers' ballpark, in a part of the metroplex built around the car.

Dallas and Fort Worth in a World Cup summer

The Dallas Fort Worth metroplex is one of the largest metropolitan areas in the United States and a serious sports town, and in 2026 it gets the busiest schedule of the tournament. The Arlington Entertainment District around the stadium offers bars, restaurants and the adjacent ballpark, while downtown Dallas and Fort Worth add nightlife, culture and a strong soccer following across the region's diverse communities.

Frequently asked questions

How many 2026 World Cup matches does AT&T Stadium host?
Nine, the most of any 2026 venue: five group-stage matches, two Round of 32 ties, one Round of 16 match and one semi-final on 14 July. The semi-final is the deepest stage the Dallas venue reaches.
What is AT&T Stadium called during the World Cup?
Dallas Stadium. Under FIFA's clean-venue sponsorship policy the commercial AT&T name is not used in FIFA materials during the tournament, so the Arlington venue is referred to as Dallas Stadium.
Does AT&T Stadium host a semi-final at the 2026 World Cup?
Yes. AT&T Stadium hosts one of the two semi-finals on 14 July, kickoff 2:00 PM local. The other semi-final is in Atlanta on 15 July, and the Final is at MetLife Stadium in the New York and New Jersey area on 19 July.
What is the capacity of AT&T Stadium for the World Cup?
AT&T Stadium seats around 80,000 for its standard configuration, which is roughly the World Cup setup. With standing room and special-event layouts it has held crowds above 100,000, but the football configuration runs at the lower figure.
Does AT&T Stadium have grass or turf for the World Cup?
Natural grass. AT&T Stadium normally plays on artificial turf, but FIFA requires real grass, so a Kentucky bluegrass and ryegrass pitch was grown and laid for the tournament. Because the retractable roof limits sunlight, crews used suspended grow lights to keep the grass healthy, a first for a FIFA World Cup venue.
Where is AT&T Stadium and when did it open?
AT&T Stadium is in Arlington, Texas, between Dallas and Fort Worth. It opened in 2009 at a cost of about 1.2 billion dollars, designed by the architecture firm HKS as the home of the NFL's Dallas Cowboys.
