The home of the Seattle Seahawks and Sounders FC, one of the loudest arenas in North American sport, hosts six matches at the 2026 World Cup, climbing from the group stage to a Round of 16 tie on 6 July in which Belgium ended the co-hosts' run with a 4-1 win. A partial-roof design that bottles up the noise, a natural-grass pitch laid over the turf, and the best transit links of any host city. FIFA calls it Seattle Stadium during the tournament.
Lumen Field, in Seattle's SoDo district just south of downtown, opened in 2002 and has become a byword for noise. Its partial roof canopy hangs over the seating and reflects sound straight back onto the pitch, and the Seattle Seahawks crowd once set a Guinness World Record for the loudest roar at a stadium, 137.6 decibels in December 2013, a mark since beaten by Kansas City's Arrowhead. In 2026 that same wall of sound greeted the World Cup.
Seattle hosts six matches: four in the group stage, one Round of 32 tie and one Round of 16 tie on 6 July, the deepest stage the venue reaches. Home of the NFL's Seahawks and MLS side Seattle Sounders FC, whose crowds are among the biggest in North American soccer, the stadium sits on the southern edge of the city centre next to the Mariners' T-Mobile Park.
Under FIFA's clean-venue sponsorship policy the ground is called Seattle Stadium during the tournament, because its commercial name, Lumen Field, belongs to a non-FIFA sponsor. For how it sits among all 16 venues, see our stadiums and host cities hub.
The biggest occasion of Seattle's World Cup was the Round of 16 tie on 6 July, and it did not go the way the home crowd wanted. Co-hosts United States, who had already won in Seattle in the group stage, ran into a ruthless Belgium side that had made Lumen Field a base of its own. Belgium controlled the game and pulled clear to win 4-1, ending the American tournament in front of a stunned Pacific Northwest crowd.
It was the deepest stage Lumen Field reached, and it sent Belgium on toward the quarter-finals. For the co-hosts it was a chastening end to a home World Cup, a story we picked apart in our USA home advantage analysis. To see how the last 16 lined up across all venues, read our Round of 16 preview.
Lumen Field hosted four group-stage matches, one Round of 32 tie and one Round of 16 tie, six in total. Times below are local Pacific Time, on daylight saving through June and July; Seattle's milder summer allowed several midday kick-offs.

Belgium played three times in Seattle, more than any other team: a Group G opener, the Round of 32 win over Senegal after extra time, and the Round of 16. The co-hosts United States appeared twice, beating Australia in Group D before their exit. Seattle also drew Bosnia and Herzegovina against Qatar in Group B, and Egypt against Iran. Lumen Field's power is its roof. Around two-thirds of the seats sit under a curved canopy that traps and channels crowd noise back down onto the field, which is why Seahawks and Sounders crowds are feared and why the venue once held the world stadium-noise record.
The surface was the big project. Lumen Field was the first NFL stadium to install artificial FieldTurf, back in 2002, so to meet FIFA's grass-only requirement a temporary natural-grass pitch was grown and laid over the turf for the tournament, part of a venue overhaul reported at around 29 million dollars. Seattle's cooler, drier summer, mild by the standards of the southern host cities, meant the pitch and the players coped well with several midday kick-offs.
Of all the 2026 venues, Seattle is one of the easiest to reach without a car. Lumen Field sits on the southern edge of downtown, a short walk from Pioneer Square, the ferry terminals and the light-rail line.
Seattle did not need the World Cup to fall in love with football. Seattle Sounders FC regularly draw some of the largest crowds in Major League Soccer to Lumen Field, and the Sounders' March to the Match, the fans' walk from Pioneer Square to the stadium, is one of the great match-day traditions in North America. That ready-made soccer culture, a walkable downtown, the Pike Place Market and the waterfront made Seattle one of the most enjoyable host stops of 2026, even as the tournament matches ended in heartbreak for the co-hosts.
