Ghana at the 2026 World Cup
The Black Stars are back, and they arrive in North America in the middle of a reset. After a group-stage exit in 2022, Ghana have a new manager in Carlos Queiroz, the well-travelled Portuguese coach, and a 26-man squad that contains 15 potential World Cup debutants. The spine mixes seniority and form: captain Jordan Ayew, Manchester City forward Antoine Semenyo, Athletic Club striker Inaki Williams and midfield anchor Thomas Partey. The headline absence is Mohammed Kudus, ruled out by injury. Ghana land in Group L with England, Croatia and Panama. This is the squad, the group, the fixtures and the new era under Queiroz.

New coach, new squad. Carlos Queiroz replaced Otto Addo in March 2026 and named his final 26 on 1 June, with Jordan Ayew as captain. Mohammed Kudus, Ghana's top scorer at the 2022 World Cup, misses out after quad surgery, and Alexander Djiku (hamstring) and Tariq Lamptey (ACL) are also injured. Ghana open against Panama at BMO Field in Toronto on 17 June.

The back line lost Alexander Djiku to a hamstring injury, with the Dutch-born Derrick Luckassen called in as cover, while Tariq Lamptey was ruled out with an ACL problem. Group L
The group and the fixtures
Ghana were drawn into Group L with England, Croatia and Panama. England are the clear seeds, and 2018 finalists Croatia carry pedigree, so Ghana will look to take maximum points from Panama and to spring a surprise against one of the bigger names. Two of their three group games are in Canada and the north-east United States.

The Ceiling
How far can the Black Stars go?
Ghana are a young side in a tough group, but they have genuine quality at the top of the pitch and a manager who knows tournament football:
- A top-level attack. Antoine Semenyo, Inaki Williams and Kamaldeen Sulemana give Ghana pace and goals that any defence will fear.
- Experience where it matters. Carlos Queiroz, Jordan Ayew and Thomas Partey bring know-how to balance the inexperience elsewhere.
- The format helps. With the top two and the eight best third-placed sides advancing, even third place in Group L could be enough to reach the round of 32.
- The key game. Panama in the opener is the fixture that shapes everything. Win it, and Ghana control their own destiny.
- The risk. So many debutants is a gamble: if the young players freeze on the biggest stage, the absence of Kudus will be felt.
Ghana have history at this tournament, most famously their run to the 2010 quarter-finals, when they came within a missed penalty of the semi-finals. This squad is younger and more uncertain, but with Semenyo and Williams up front and Queiroz on the touchline, the Black Stars will travel believing the knockouts are within reach.
