About Atlético Madrid

Atletico Madrid were founded in 1903 and built their identity in opposition to their grand neighbours: working-class, defiant, never a step backward. The rojiblanco stripes carry eleven league titles, more than any Spanish club outside the big two.

The Doblete of 1996 was folklore, but Diego Simeone turned defiance into a system. His 2014 and 2021 title winners broke the Madrid-Barcelona duopoly twice in eight seasons, and two Champions League finals in three years made Europe respect the Cholo way.

The move from the beloved Calderon to the 70,000-seat Metropolitano in 2017 gave Atleti a home to match their ambition, and it hosted a Champions League final within two years. The derby against Real Madrid is as fierce as any fixture in Europe.
