Real Madrid Femenino were born in 2020 through the absorption of CD Tacon, the great club arriving startlingly late to the women's game and racing to make up the distance.

Champions League qualification came almost immediately, and the signings, Caroline Weir, Linda Caicedo, Melanie Leupolz, announced that Madrid intended to challenge Barcelona's hegemony rather than accept it.

The Clasico remains one-sided for now, which in Madrid is read as a to-do list rather than a verdict. Las Blancas play at the Alfredo Di Stefano inside Valdebebas, with the Bernabeu waiting for the right occasion.
