Ecuador at the 2026 World Cup
Young, fearless and built on rock. Under Argentine coach Sebastian Beccacece, Ecuador reached North America by finishing second in CONMEBOL qualifying, behind only Argentina, on the back of the meanest defence in South America. La Tri carry a remarkable spine of European talent: Chelsea's Moises Caicedo, PSG Champions League winner Willian Pacho and Arsenal's Piero Hincapie, with veteran captain Enner Valencia leading the line and teenager Kendry Paez lighting up the future. Ecuador land in Group E with Germany, Ivory Coast and debutants Curacao. This is the squad, the group, the fixtures and the case for a dark horse.

South America's surprise package. Sebastian Beccacece's Ecuador qualified second behind Argentina despite starting the campaign with a points deduction, conceding fewer than almost anyone in CONMEBOL. With Moises Caicedo, Willian Pacho and Piero Hincapie, this is a side nobody will want to face. Ecuador open against Ivory Coast at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia on 14 June.
The Squad
The Ecuador squad by position
Sebastian Beccacece's 26 blends Premier League and European stars with a young, hungry core. Enner Valencia is captain. Below are the confirmed key names by position; club listings can shift over the summer window.

This is a list of the confirmed key names rather than the entire 26. The squad's depth at centre-back and in midfield is exceptional for a side of Ecuador's size, with Pacho, Hincapie and Caicedo all starting at elite European clubs while still in their early twenties. The questions are at the other end: Ecuador scored sparingly in qualifying and lean heavily on veteran captain Enner Valencia, with Gonzalo Plata and the young forwards asked to chip in. Group E
The group and the fixtures
Ecuador were drawn into Group E with Germany, Ivory Coast and debutants Curacao. Germany are the seeds and favourites, so Ecuador look set for a heavyweight fight with the reigning African champions Ivory Coast for second place, with the Curacao game one they will target for three points. Ecuador's three games take them from Philadelphia to Kansas City to New Jersey.

The opener against Ivory Coast in Philadelphia is the biggest game of Ecuador's group, very likely a straight shootout for second place. For the full picture of all 104 games, see the WorldCuply.com match schedule, and read our guides to Group E rivals Germany and the Ivory Coast, plus Curacao.
The Ceiling
How far can La Tri go?
Ecuador are among the most intriguing dark horses at the tournament, a young side with elite defenders and a destroyer at the base of midfield:
- A defence to build on. Willian Pacho, Piero Hincapie and Moises Caicedo give Ecuador a spine that can frustrate anyone, including Germany.
- Proven against the best. Finishing second in CONMEBOL, above the likes of Brazil and Uruguay in the table, shows this side can live with elite opposition.
- The format helps. With the top two and the eight best third-placed sides advancing, even third place in Group E could be enough to reach the round of 32.
- Youth on their side. A squad this young, with so many players at top clubs, has a ceiling that goes well beyond the group stage.
- The history to chase. Ecuador's best run was the round of 16 in 2006. This group has the quality to match or beat that.
The one caveat is goals. If Ecuador can find enough at the top end to complement their defence, they are a genuine threat to reach the knockouts and spring a surprise. Beat Curacao, take something from Ivory Coast, and La Tri will be well placed heading into the Germany finale.
