About Coventry City

Coventry City, founded in 1883 as Singers FC by bicycle factory workers, are back in the top flight for the first time since 2001, ending a 25-year wait that took in relegations to League Two, exile from their own city and two heartbreaking near-misses in the play-offs.

The club's finest hour remains the 1987 FA Cup final, a 3-2 extra-time classic against Tottenham that is still replayed on highlight reels. John Sillett and George Curtis's side gave a generation of Sky Blues fans the day of their lives at Wembley.

Coventry also hold a place in football history through Jimmy Hill, whose 1960s revolution at Highfield Road pioneered the modern matchday. A city built on manufacturing and reinvention finally has Premier League football again, and the CBS Arena will be one of the loudest grounds in the division.
