About Werder Bremen

Werder Bremen were founded in 1899, and the green-whites of the little Hanseatic city-state have won four championships, a total only the true giants better. The Weserstadion sits directly on the river dyke, floodlights reflected in the water.

Otto Rehhagel's fourteen-year reign brought the titles of 1988 and 1993 and the 1992 Cup Winners' Cup. Thomas Schaaf's 2004 double, with Ailton and Micoud conducting, completed the set and confirmed Bremen's way: clever recruitment and brave football over budget.

The club's genius-in-residence tradition runs from Micoud to Diego to Ozil, and the support through the 2021 relegation and instant return proved the bond is unconditional. Nordderby meetings with Hamburg are back, and the north is better for it.
